As a parent, social worker, and advocate, I believe families are essential partners in student success. When families are supported, engaged, and empowered, children thrive — not just academically, but emotionally and socially as well. That’s why one of my top priorities on the Redmond School Board will be strengthening Family-Centered Supports across our district.
This means:
Open Communication – Families deserve transparent, two-way communication with schools. We must create more opportunities for listening and collaboration, not just informing.
Shared Decision-Making – Parents and caregivers should have a seat at the table when it comes to decisions that impact their children. Respecting family input leads to stronger outcomes.
Cultural Sensitivity – Every family’s culture, language, and lived experience should be honored. Inclusivity isn't just a value — it’s a responsibility.
Strengths-Based Approach – Rather than focusing on deficits, let’s build on the unique strengths of every child and every family.
Family Resource Centers – Accessible, community-based hubs can connect families with everything from basic needs to parenting support to academic guidance.
Family Involvement in IEPs – For students with disabilities, families are crucial members of the IEP team. They must be informed, supported, and truly heard throughout the process.
Our schools are at their best when they reflect and uplift the families they serve. As your school board representative, I will advocate for policies and practices that put families at the center — because when we support our families, we support our future.
